In the aftermath of the unprecedented flooding incidents around the turn of the year, the Bremen Senate has taken steps to support farmers who suffered substantial losses. Starting from July 1, affected farmers can apply for compensation at the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture.

The Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture will be responsible for processing applications, as well as approving and paying out the compensation. Approximately €320,000 has been allocated for this purpose from the state of Bremen.

Senator Kathrin Moosdorf has stated that in some areas, they have never before measured such high water levels on the Wümme. The flooding caused significant damage to farmers in Borgfeld, Timmersloh, and Oberneuland, located in Bremen. Damage assessments by the Bremen Chamber of Agriculture and calculations by the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture have shown that a total of around €365,000 in damages were incurred on the affected Bremen areas.

Photos will serve as sufficient evidence for the application process. The Bremen Senate has passed a directive to regulate the compensation for these farmers. Depending on the type of damage, farmers can receive a refund of 50 to 100 percent of their costs.

Future flood protection measures may include raising some dikes and removing vegetation from certain riverbanks. The Bremen Senate's department is working on restructuring the flood protection on the Wümme.

It should be noted that the politician who presented the guidelines for compensating affected farmers in Bremen on May 21 is not mentioned in the provided search results.

Water stood on the fields for weeks, destroying grassland and seedlings in some cases. The Bremen Senate aims to alleviate the financial burden caused by these incidents for the affected farmers. The Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture stands ready to process applications starting from July 1.
