FC Porto Midfielder André Franco on the Brink of Move to Chicago Fire

In a potential game-changer for Chicago Fire's midfield options, the MLS club is actively negotiating with FC Porto to sign attacking midfielder André Franco. The discussions involve either a loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent after the 2025 season or a potential agreement that might designate Franco as a Designated Player, highlighting his expected importance to the team.

The 27-year-old Franco, who has scored one goal in 17 appearances for Porto, has reportedly not been fitting into FC Porto's current plans, making this move an attractive prospect for Chicago Fire.

Franco's transfer to Chicago Fire would be his first move outside of Portugal, marking a new chapter in his career. Before joining FC Porto, he played for Sporting, Belenenses, and Estoril's U23 team.

Meanwhile, FC Porto held a training session on Saturday morning in preparation for their upcoming match against Atlético de Madrid. However, the team had four absences, including left-back Francisco Moura, who was absent due to an injury to his left knee's internal collateral ligament. Moura performed gym work during the training session, and his participation in the Atlético de Madrid match is in doubt.

In a friendly match as part of their preseason training camp in Melgaço, FC Porto B emerged victorious against Pontevedra, winning 2-1. Anhá Cande scored the first goal for FC Porto B in the 77th minute, and Kaue Rodrigues, a summer reinforcement for FC Porto B, scored the second goal from a penalty in the 90th minute.

Gabri Veiga could be an option for FC Porto in the match against Atlético de Madrid. João Brandão rotated the squad for the friendly match, using 17 players. The friendly match against Atlético de Madrid is the last one before the official start of the season for FC Porto.

Rui Monteiro and Gonçalo Silva were not present in the friendly match due to conditioned training and treatment respectively.

The negotiations between FC Porto and Chicago Fire are ongoing, with sources confirming serious intent from Chicago Fire to secure the player’s services soon. The talks involve a significant opportunity for Franco, as this move could provide him with a fresh start and a chance to make a lasting impact in a new league.
