Gather with Sunday's Crime Drama Notable Characters - Farewell to Weekend Prime-Time Crime Television Stars
Veteran actor Edin Hasanovic (33), known for his role as music manager Eric, delves into the dark yet heartwarming world of a funeral director in the upcoming tragicomedy "Dying for Beginners". Inspired by the non-fiction bestseller "The End: The Book of Death" by Eric Wrede, the film left an indelible mark on Hasanovic, as he confesses in an interview.
"I usually skim through scripts in the bathtub, deciding whether to proceed or not. But 'Dying for Beginners' gripped me so hard that I found myself weeping, fully immersed in the story," Hasanovic shares with ZDF. "I couldn't help but agree to work with director Christian Klandt, whose brilliance I've admired since our collaboration in 2008."
A Tale of Farewells and Conflict
Eric's (Hasanovic) best friend, Alex (Max Hubacher), is terminally ill. Unsure about the proper farewell, Eric decides to apply for a position at a funeral home. As Alex's pregnant girlfriend Karla (Svenja Jung) grapples with the situation, a bitter dispute over burial sites arises between Alex's parents - Birgit (Steffi Kuhnert) and Paul (Wolfram Koch) - and Karla.
Beset by his personal struggles with a failed music management career, Eric finds himself caught in the middle of conflicts as a funeral director. Guided by Volker Mutz (Peter Kurth), a stern yet supportive boss demanding order, Eric eventually devises an unconventional and loving way to bid farewell to Alex...
Familiar Faces in the Unknown
Apart from Hasanovic, Hubacher, Kurth, and Jung, the film also features Wolfram Koch, known for his portrayal of Kriminalhauptkommissar Paul Brix opposite Margarita Broich as Hauptkommissarin Anna Janneke in Frankfurt am Main from 2015. The two parted ways in their final case broadcast on September 29, 2024.
In June 2024, Melika Foroutan and Edin Hasanovic were announced as the new duo set to take over the Frankfurt crime drama scene, but the release date for their debut is yet to be revealed.
Death: More Than Just a Goodbye
"Dying for Beginners" promises to resonate with viewers, believes Hasanovic. "I've spoken to numerous people who attended film festivals, and the responses varied greatly," he recounts. "There were so many unique emotions and thoughts stirred by the film that I'm simply ecstatic to witness the impressions audiences will make for themselves. It's stirred a multitude of emotions and left no one untouched."
"Dying for Beginners" is scheduled for broadcast on ZDF on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 8:15 PM.
