Dive Into "Dying for Beginners" Alongside Sunday Crime Stars

Gathering Once More with Actors from Sunday's Criminal Drama - Farewell to the Weekend's Criminal Drama Characters

Get ready for a soul-stirring journey with actor Edin Hasanovic, embracing the heartrending role of Eric, a former music manager turned funeral director, in the upcoming tragicomedy "Dying for Beginners." This gripping story, adapted from the non-fiction bestseller "The End: The Book of Death" by Eric Wrede, resonated deeply with Hasanovic, spurring his immediate decision to join forces with director Christian Klandt.

"I figured I'd take a quick peek at the script, decide if it was worth diving in," Hasanovic recalled his initial encounter with the script to ZDF. "But as the tears started to flow, I was drawn into the tale so deeply that I couldn't resist the offer from Klandt. We'd worked together back in 2008, you see."

The Tale of Eric and His Challenges

"Dying for Beginners" takes an honest look at Eric's emotional farewell to his terminally ill best friend Alex, portrayed by Max Hubacher. Struggling to navigate this painful goodbye, Eric seizes the opportunity to work at a funeral home, joining forces with Alex's pregnant girlfriend Karla, played by Svenja Jung.

As Alex's parents, Birgit (Steffi Kuhnert) and Paul (Wolfram Koch), grapple with their grief and disagreements over burial sites, Eric serves as a mediator in this tumultuous time, all while dealing with his own career disappointments. With the stern guidance of his boss Volker Mutz, portrayed by Peter Kurth, Eric manages to discover a unique and heartfelt method to bid farewell to Alex.

Familiar Faces on the Big Screen

The tragicomedy boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Hasanovic, Hubacher, Kurth, and Jung, along with other intriguing characters. "Dying for Beginners" also features Wolfram Koch, an accomplished actor born in Paris, who delightfully helmed the role of Kriminalhauptkommissar Paul Brix in Frankfurt am Main alongside Margarita Broich as Hauptkommissarin Anna Janneke for several years. Their final case was unveiled on September 29, 2024.

By June 2024, Melika Foroutan and Edin Hasanovic were revealed as the successors to Koch and Broich in the Frankfurt crime drama series, though their debut hasn't secured an airdate as of yet.

The Bittersweet Embrace of Death

The emotional and thought-provoking film "Dying for Beginners" is poised to captivate viewers, predicts Hasanovic. "From the festivals where it's largely collected audience awards, I've had a chance to converse with folks about the picture," he shares. "The identical array of thoughts and reactions audiences have had are absolutely stunning. I'm genuinely eager for the audience to experience this work and form their own thoughts about it."

"Dying for Beginners" is scheduled to air on ZDF on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 8:15 PM.
