Ed's Emotional Rollercoaster: "Dying for Beginners" with Our Fav Crime Stars

Gathering with the Star-Studded Gang of Weekend Crooks - Farewell to the stellar cast of crime dramas that air on Sunday nights

Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster with actor Edin Hasanovic (33) in the tragicomic drama "Dying for Beginners". Hassanovic plays Eric, a music manager turned funeral director, navigating through the emotional turmoil of saying goodbye to his best friend.

Drowned in tears from the first chapter, Hasanovic admitted he was hooked. Speaking to ZDF, he shared his emotional response, "I was lying in the bathtub, thinking I'd read the first 20, 30 pages and decide if it's worth continuing. But then the tears were flowing, and I was so drawn in, I immediately said yes to director Christian Klandt."

Eulogizing the End

Eric, played by Hasanovic, faces the heart-wrenching task of bidding farewell to his best friend Alex, who's terminally ill. Awkward about goodbyes, Eric takes a job at a funeral home. Being there for Alex's pregnant girlfriend Karla (Svenja Jung), Eric grapples with unresolved conflicts between Alex's parents and Karla, while dealing with his own career frustrations. As a funeral director caught within the rifts, Eric struggles to find a solution, with strict boss Volker Mutz (Peter Kurth) insisting on maintaining order.

From Frankfurt's Crime Scene to the Morgue

In addition to Hasanovic, Hubacher, Kurth, and Jung, other familiar faces populate the tragicomedy, including the versatile Wolfram Koch. Known for his role as Kriminalhauptkommissar Paul Brix in Frankfurt from 2015, Wolfram adds depth to the story. As of June 2024, Melika Foroutan and Edin Hasanovic were announced as the new investigators, with their first Frankfurt crime movie date unconfirmed.

Death: Not Just a Final Goodbye

The film "Dying for Beginners" promises to leave viewers reflecting deeply, as Hasanovic predicts. "At the festivals where we've primarily won audience awards, I've had the chance to talk to people about the movie," he shares. "There were so many different feelings and thoughts that I'm really looking forward to hearing what the viewers take from the film for themselves."

"Dying for Beginners" airs on ZDF on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 8:15 PM.
