Gathering with Notable Criminals over the Weekend - Farewell to Stellar Crime Television Personalities on Sunday Nights

Actor Edin Hasanovic (33), known for hosting "Edins Neo Night" and set to become a Frankfurt "Tatort" investigator, takes on the role of music manager turned funeral director, Eric, in "Dying for Beginners". This heart-wrenching tragicomedy, inspired by the non-fiction bestseller "The End: The Book of Death" by Eric Wrede, left a deep impact on Hasanovic, as he shared in an interview.

In a candid conversation with ZDF, Hasanovic recounted, "I was soaking in the tub, planning to read just a few pages before deciding whether to continue or not. But then the tears started flowing, and I found myself completely consumed by the story. Before I knew it, I said yes to director Christian Klandt, who I had worked with back in 2008."

The Story Unfolds

Struggling with the imminent farewell of his terminally ill best friend, Alex (Max Hubacher), Eric makes the unprecedented decision to work at a funeral home. Accompanied by Alex's pregnant girlfriend, Karla (Svenja Jung), Eric navigates through the emotionally challenging period as a heated dispute arises between Alex's parents, Birgit (Steffi Kuhnert) and Paul (Wolfram Koch), and Karla, over the burial sites.

Grappling with his own unresolved career failures as a music manager, Eric's journey takes an unconventional and loving turn as he finds himself standing between the conflicts, seeking a solution with the guidance of his strict boss, Volker Mutz (Peter Kurth).

Familiar Faces Land in the Tragicomedy

Besides Hasanovic, Hubacher, Kurth, and Jung, other familiar faces from the world of crime dramas appear in the tragicomedy. Notably, Wolfram Koch, who played Kriminalhauptkommissar Paul Brix alongside Margarita Broich as Hauptkommissarin Anna Janneke in Frankfurt am Main from 2015. Their last case aired on September 29, 2024, and in June 2024, Melika Foroutan and Edin Hasanovic were announced as their successors for upcoming Frankfurt crime dramas, though their initial release date remains unknown.

Laughter Through Tears

The film "Dying for Beginners" resonates with audiences, predicts Hasanovic. "During the film festivals, where we've mostly won audience awards, I've had the chance to speak with viewers. Their responses were diverse, ranging from laughter to tears, and I can't wait to hear how the viewers interpret this emotional rollercoaster. It's a powerful experience that touches everyone in a unique way."

"Dying for Beginners" will air on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 8:15 PM on ZDF.
