Farewell to Carrie Bradshaw on screen! The celebrated actress of "Sex and the City" graces TV once more
In the world of television, few shows have left an indelible mark like "Sex and the City" did in the late 1990s. The groundbreaking HBO series, which followed the lives of four friends navigating love, career, and friendship in New York City, became a worldwide phenomenon.
Now, 11 years after the events of "Sex and the City 2" (2010), the sequel series "And Just Like That..." has concluded its journey. Developed by Michael Patrick King and premiered on HBO Max on December 9, 2021, the show served as a revival of the original series, following Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) as they transitioned from their earlier years of liberation and friendship into more complex realities in their 50s.
The show's third season, which started at the end of May, recently premiered as the series finale, marking the end of the Sex and the City franchise after 12 episodes in its final season. The finale is planned as a two-part event, underscoring a careful and celebratory conclusion to the series.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw for 27 years, expressed her gratitude for the character and the series in an Instagram post, highlighting the deep connection with fans over the years and the meaningful experiences working on the show. She also expressed her love for the character, stating that she will take a long time to forget her time on "And Just Like That...".
The reception of "And Just Like That..." has been mixed. Some critics and fans viewed it as unnecessary and considered it inferior to the original Sex and the City series, while others appreciated the updated perspectives on friendship and life at an older age. The show dealt notably with mature themes such as grief—the first season covers Carrie’s navigation of her husband Big's death—as well as evolving relationships in midlife.
Interestingly, Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), a main character in both "Sex and the City" and "And Just Like That", is no longer part of the show. The series was ordered directly for HBO Max after plans for a third film adaptation were canceled, with casting and production beginning in 2021.
As "And Just Like That..." concludes, a new show, "Leopard, Seabear & Co.", is being produced. Although not directly related to the Sex and the City franchise, it's worth noting that filming for this show is taking place in Hagenbeck. The finale of the third season of "Leopard, Seabear & Co." is on August 14.
For those in Germany, the HBO series "And Just Like That" can be seen on Sky and WOW. The final season of "And Just Like That" was originally planned for ten episodes but now has twelve. The series "And Just Like That" has three seasons in total.
Producer Michael Patrick King stated that it's the right time for "And Just Like That" to end, and with Sarah Jessica Parker's heartfelt farewell, the era of "Sex and the City" has officially ended with the sequel series "And Just Like That".
Movies-and-tv entertainment witnessed the conclusion of the sequel series "And Just Like That...," which served as a revival of the original "Sex and the City" series on HBO Max. The show's third season, a series finale, marked the end of the Sex and the City franchise after 12 episodes in its final season.
