Farewell, no more encounters ahead
Rewritten Article:
In a chilling turn of events, the psychic Edith, aka Marie-France Marcotte, had nailed it - something terrible was indeed brewing at Saint-Vincent Hospital, and the grand finale of STAT didn't disappoint.
With author Marie-Andrée Labbé's knack for keeping viewers on their toes four nights a week, it was only fitting that the finale packed an extra punch. As STAT bid adieu to its daily drama format to return as a weekly, one-hour series in the fall, the last episode was nothing short of spellbinding.
Let me take a moment to reflect on my emotional farewell. Monday to Thursday at 7 pm? That slot will be sorely missed, especially since it was the one steady ritual that I shared with my partner. No more 30 minutes of escapism into the chaotic realm of Saint-Vincent Hospital!
The series didn't appear destined for success when it first debuted, taking the mantle from the much-loved District 31. But we quickly fell for the motley crew of STAT - from the intricate Emmanuelle St-Cyr (Suzanne Clément) and her volatile brother Pascal (Normand D'Amour), the endearing Isabelle (Geneviève Schmidt), the blundering Eric (Stéphane Rousseau), the competent and handsome Jacob (Lou-Pascal Tremblay), and Marco (Anglesh Major), the cunning Daniel (Bruno Marcil), and Sophia's (Ludivine Reding) vulnerabilities.
However, it was the powerful friendships and teamwork among the characters that stole our hearts, along with the social messages threaded cleverly through the string of intrigues. Although Luc Dionne and Nadine Bismuth are preparing to introduce a new daily drama in September, nothing can replace the thrilling suspense that enveloped us each evening at Saint-Vincent Hospital.
For those unspoiled souls, beware! My colleague Hugo Dumas' cautionary formula echoes here: if you haven't caught the finale yet, brace yourself - the spoiler alert is blaring as insistently as the electrocardiogram notes of the STAT show.
The episode kicked off on a tragicomic note, as Daniel found himself caught between a rock and a hard place, assisting Laurence who was in labor, guided by Isabelle over FaceTime. The irony was too rich, as poor Laurence had to watch her lover in a rather awkward predicament with his former flame. Thankfully, both mother and child emerged unscathed, but the baby was still premature, revealing itself in a poignant moment between Daniel and the newborn.
On another note, tensions continued to rise at Saint-Vincent under the watchful eye of the despised Laurent Lamy (Emmanuel Bilodeau). Facing mounting resentment from the staff, Raphael proposed a mutiny and they decided to stampede towards resigning en masse, except for Emmanuelle. However, both Pascal and Emmanuelle took the opportunity to give Lamy a well-deserved piece of their minds, reminding him of their father's tyrannical rule.
Just as the rebellion began to brew, a band of masked toddlers armed with baseball bats stormed the hospital, targeting the doctors and management. Leading the assault was Élyse Beland (Amélie Grenier), the woman whose husband perished in the emergency room, with the apparent complicity of Justine (Sharon Ibgui), the patient who lost a leg.
While spectators eagerly awaited to see the impudent Lamy get his just desserts, it was Emmanuelle who found herself facing the distorted DSP. And just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, Claude Coupal (Caroline Néron) was snatched right off her doorstep by the masked intruders!
With Marie-Andrée Labbé expertly dangling several cliffhangers, we're now left on the edge of our seats for the summer, wondering...
Who are these mystery assailants? Criminals with political agendas, or simply malcontents? Will Lamy survive his encounter with the masked menace? Will Emmanuelle show mercy towards the wounded wolf? Can the Isabelle-Daniel duo stand the test of time with Raphael lurking around? Will Marco make a comeback? What's in store for Steve's future? Will Rosalie continue squandering her inheritance on Charlie's treatment? And how long will Jacob have to live with his crushing secret, with his father making a ghostly appearance on the hacked computer system of Saint-Vincent?
Stay tuned this fall to find the answers to these burning questions, and while it's a bittersweet farewell to the daily series, I can't help but look forward to the similar length of time in the weekly format - offering plenty of time for Marie-Andrée Labbé to continue weaving her tapestry of twists and turns. After all, every end is just a new beginning, isn't it?
