Farense's Tech Commander, Tozé Marreco, departs following a mutual consent agreement.
Sporting Clube Farense Part Ways with Tozé Marreco following II Liga Relegation
In a mutual agreement, Sporting Clube Farense has terminated the contract of coach Tozé Marreco, the Algarve club announced on Thursday. The club expressed gratitude for Marreco's dedication during his tenure, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Marreco, aged 37, assumed the helm of Farense on September 25, 2024, following the departure of José Mota. He had recently left his post at Gil Vicente. Yet, the team's relegation to the II Liga, Portugal's second tier, precipitated Marreco's departure.
The 2024/25 I Liga season proved challenging for Farense, with the team finishing in the penultimate position, just ahead of Boavista, who ranked 18th. Both clubs were relegated to the second tier with 27 points (Farense) and 24 points (Boavista) respectively.
The poor start to the season, marked by six consecutive losses, had precipitated José Mota's departure. Marreco, his successor, was unable to prevent the team's drop to the II Liga. Marreco's departure, right before the end of the season, suggests ongoing complications during his tenure.
In light of the relegation to the II Liga, Tozé Marreco's focus may shift towards European-leagues, as he looks to revive his coaching career in the premier-league of other nations. Despite his short stint with Sporting Clube Farense, his dedication in football remained unwavering, as evidenced during his tenure.
