State Party Conference AfD Urges Tougher Security Measures in MV
Far-right party AfD calls for shift in security strategy in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - Far-Right Party AFG proposes shift in security strategy forMecklenburg-Vorpommern
There's a new game plan on the table for internal security in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), as the AfD has rolled out its proposed tough-as-nails security policy at its state party gathering in Demen.
The heart of this plan includes beefing up the cop force in MV, setting sights on expanding video surveillance in crime-prone zones, and going after criminal foreigners, even if it means sending them packing to places like Afghanistan and Syria.
The state chair of Leif-Erik Holm made it clear: police and justice need better equipment. He also put his foot down on the importance of genuine border protection against irregular migration.
Meanwhile, the party's looking to up its professionalism
Not stopping at just security, the AfD conference also discussed beefing up the state executive board, giving it up to 14 members, instead of the previous cap of 9. They plan to hire a general secretary to support this big kahuna gang. The increased size of the executive board is attributed to the ever-growing number of members in the state association, currently at around 2,200 - more than double the number since fall 2023. Future party meetings will be delegate assemblies.
The AfD is aiming for power in MV
The eastern federal states' parliamentary group leaders have staked their claim, stating their intention to take on government responsibilities after the state elections in 2026 - both in MV and Saxony-Anhalt. The vote in Saxony-Anhalt happens on September 6, 2026.
Holm made it loud and clear: the AfD is aiming for the driver's seat in MV, vying for an absolute majority in the state parliament and, if the other parties aren't game, they'll have to tough it out solo.
A poll in April 2025 showed the AfD leading in MV with 29%, way ahead of the ruling SPD and even the CDU.
