Fantastic weather prediction for the upcoming weekend
Weekend Weather Forecast Blazing Hot Across Iceland!
"Gear up for some sizzling temperatures this weekend as Iceland braces for a heatwave," says the weather forecast.
Yesterday, Egilsstaðir Airport smashed the May temperature record with a scorching high of 26.6°C, leaving the previous record of 25.6°C set in Vopnafjörður in 1992, a distant memory.
Meteorologist Katrín Agla Tómasdóttir from the Icelandic Meteorological Office was taken aback by the astonishing heat, but she's hesitant to bet on another record-breaking day this weekend. She suspects southerly winds will be weaker than yesterday, with sea breezes tempering temperatures, particularly near the coast.
"This weekend will sizzle with warm temperatures, but whether we top the new record is anyone's guess," Tómasdóttir told mbl.is. "The forecast calls for brilliant sunshine almost everywhere. However, foggy conditions could crop up along the south and east coasts, bringing cooler temperatures to those zones."
Capital Area Prepared for 21°C
Tómasdóttir expects gentle southerly winds, clear skies, and sweltering heat throughout the weekend. On Sunday, the capital area is anticipated to bask in partly cloudy skies with thermometers showing up to 21°C.
Moving forward, Tómasdóttir warns of a potential weather shift by Wednesday, as forecasts predict elevated southeasterly winds and moisture in the west. This could mean cooler temperatures in areas south of the highlands, while the northeast remains hot, with temperatures hovering near or above 20°C.
