Fansipan Peak glistens under rare Christmas frost spectacle
Fansipan Peak in Sa Pa woke to a rare winter spectacle on Thursday morning. A thin layer of frost covered the summit, transforming the landscape into a glistening white scene. Visitors arriving early were greeted by the striking sight just before dawn.
The frost formed overnight, leaving a delicate 0.5cm coating on surfaces across the peak. Temperatures hovered between 1°C and 3°C, creating ideal conditions for the icy transformation. By 7.30am, the rising sun began to melt the frost, slowly revealing the usual terrain beneath.
Meteorologists have long warned that winter months—particularly December to February—bring harsh conditions to Sa Pa. Dry cold air, strong winds, and slippery surfaces make proper clothing and footwear essential for visitors. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting regularly advises travellers to prepare for temperatures near freezing at the summit.
The frost-covered summit offered a brief but breathtaking display for early risers on Christmas Day. With temperatures remaining low, authorities continue to urge caution for those exploring Fansipan during the winter season. Proper gear and awareness of icy conditions remain key for a safe visit.
