Fans of the NFL are expressing their pleasure with ESPN's latest hire for Monday Night Football and offering congrats to a popular reporter for her promotion.
Peter Schrager, formerly of FOX and NFL Network, will join Katie George on the MNF game coverage for select Monday Night Football games in the 2025 NFL season.
Katie George, a top sideline reporter for ESPN and ABC, has been appointed to this role. Best known for her work in college football, George will make her debut in Week 2 of the NFL season.
George will work alongside Chris Fowler, Dan Orlovsky, Louis Riddick, and the newly-joined Schrager on weeks with doubleheader games, including Weeks 2, 4, 6, and 7, and the Doubleheader Saturday in Week 18.
The first double-header of the season will feature the Houston Texans taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the new-look Las Vegas Raiders playing host to the Los Angeles Chargers. The first "Monday Night Football" of the 2025 season will be an NFC North divisional matchup between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field on September 8.
Laura Rutledge has been promoted to an "elevated" sideline role by ESPN for all 25 NFL on ESPN games. Rutledge, who has been covering football since 2019, will continue to host NFL Live, SEC Nation on Saturday mornings, and The Masters. She has also agreed to a multi-year contract extension to remain at ESPN.
Rutledge is often praised by fans, with one commenting "Laura Rutledge is the gold standard of sideline reporters." Fans are thrilled to see more of Rutledge and long-tenured sideline reporter Lisa Salters, with comments such as "Laura and Lisa on the new contract...this is going to be a fun year."
Salters, one of ESPN's most esteemed journalists, has been in her role for approximately 14 seasons. She will continue to work on MNF games, adding to her impressive career.
The merger between ESPN and the NFL has sparked a frenzy among football fans, with most people worried about the future of RedZone, which ESPN has acquired in a billion-dollar deal. Despite the concerns, ESPN is ramping up its preparations, as it is two seasons away from broadcasting the Super Bowl in 2027.
Vince Tyra, former Louisville Director of Athletics, has commented on Katie George's appointment, expressing pride. Fans have also been congratulating Katie George on social media.
George has been recognized with an Emmy award for her role on ESPN's SEC on ABC college football coverage. She has also been a regular on NBA telecasts.
