Heung-Min Son, the South Korean international forward, has joined Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in a historic move that sets a new transfer record in Major League Soccer (MLS). The deal, worth around $26 million, marks Son's departure from Tottenham Hotspur after a decade-long stint.

Son, who has made 454 appearances for Tottenham, scored 173 goals (the fifth-highest in the club's history), and provided 101 assists, is a proven scorer and leader. His last competitive game for Spurs was the Europa League final victory in May 2025.

In his career with Tottenham, Son was appointed club captain in 2023 and won key accolades, including the Premier League Golden Boot in 2021–22 and the FIFA Puskas Award for an outstanding goal in 2020.

At LAFC, Son reunites with former Tottenham teammate and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who joined LAFC in 2024. Lloris, who handed Son the Spurs captaincy, warmly welcomed Son, praising his leadership, competitiveness, and motivation.

LAFC's co-president has praised Son as a "global icon" and expects him to elevate the club on and off the pitch, aligning with LAFC's values. Son, in turn, described joining LAFC and living in Los Angeles as a "dream come true."

The transfer of Son to LAFC is significant as it involves a former Premier League player moving to MLS. It also marks a significant event in MLS, as it sets a new transfer record. Son's arrival at LAFC could boost their performance, as they currently sit sixth in the MLS Western Conference but have games in hand.

Fans of Son attempted to see him at Los Angeles International Airport, but he was not present due to a sendoff in South Korea. However, Son has shown his commitment to LAFC by purchasing a gold and black LAFC jersey with his name printed on it before the official unveiling.

LAFC will hold a news conference on Wednesday at 2 pm local time for a "major announcement." It is likely to be the unveiling of Son by LAFC, generating strong positive reactions among the team management, teammates, and fans alike.
