Famous figure Simona Ventura accepts invitation to the Celebrity Island
When it comes to Roma's famous mantra, "Believe in yourself, never give up," Simona Ventura lives and breathes it. As the popular host of Isola dei famosi, she's so passionate about the show that she's turned down a juicy offer from Rai for the adventure game The Unknown. Instead, she's jumped ship to Canale 5, where she'll be a pundit starting tomorrow.
According to the news agency Adnkronos, this move has causing a shake-up at Rai. Ventura's contract originally involved keeping Citofonare Rai2 in the mix and a prime-time commitment, which turned out to be The Unknown. In that show, she would've been the host, but on Isola dei famosi—a brand she helped make famous—she's been offered the role of pundit, supporting the new host, Veronica Gentili.
On paper, Rai's offer seemed tempting, especially considering the current state of reality shows. They've lost their sparkle, and even a Big Brother and a The Mole couldn't catch viewers' attention. The latest offering, The Couple, isn't doing much better, with low ratings despite the host, Ilary Blasi. But Ventura made a gamble on Canale 5. Rai had to renegotiate her contract, dropping the initial fee. There were even reports that Rai requested Ventura not to appear on Monday to separate her media exposure.
But there's more to Ventura's decision than just the numbers. She's got a strong sentimental bond with Isola dei Famosi, hosting it for eight consecutive editions starting from 2003. She played a significant role in defining the show's identity and turning it into a popular Italian television program. Ventura might have chosen to reconnect with the show for professional and personal fulfillment beyond a new role at Rai.
The entertainment industry felt a ripple as Simona Ventura, the celebrated host of "Isola dei famosi," decided to decline a lucrative offer from Rai to host their adventure game "The Unknown." Instead, she opted to associate with celebrities on her beloved show, reaffirming her commitment to a broader purpose than just the numbers.
