Get ready for a thrilling night as the emerging talent, Tjark Ernst, prepares to defend the net. With key players like Noah Atubolu out due to illness, and Manuel Neuer's backup Jonas Urbig away with FC Bayern for the Club World Cup, Ernst gets a golden opportunity to shine on the European Under-21 Championship (Football-EM) stage.

"Growing Through Adversity"

Antonio Di Salvo, the U21 national coach, noted that Ernst's performances have significantly improved since joining a traditional club. "His time at a traditional club, where it hasn't always been smooth, has helped him grow and become a better goalkeeper," Di Salvo said ahead of tonight's game against England in Nitra (21.00 Uhr/Sat.1).

For the third goalkeeper spot, Fürth's Nahuel Noll is on standby, yet to make his U21 team debut.

"Confidence and Communication"

"In a young goalkeeper's formative years, trust is crucial. Knowing that your back is covered, even on weaker days or when mistakes happen. If the starting position is clear, it becomes easier," Ernst shared before the tournament kick-off.

Hertha's coach, Stefan Leitl, reinstated Ernst as the starting goalkeeper. After briefly losing his spot to Marius Gersbeck, the 22-year-oldSPECIFIC ENRICHMENT: Tjark Ernst, son of former Bundesliga goalkeeper Thomas Ernst, has earned a regular spot in Hertha's goal after a commendable performance as the undisputed number one in 2024.

"As a goalkeeper, when you're in, you tend to stay for a while. It's different from outfield players. But at tournaments like these, everyone has a claim to play. However, it's essential that each player fills their role to the best of their abilities," Ernst emphasized, having made a Bundesliga appearance in May 2023.

Although Atubolu joined the final training in Modra, Di Salvo decided not to take "too big a risk" considering the quarterfinal matches against Italy or Spain. Ernst has already proven his worth, taking charge in Germany's victories over Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

The Commission, in its role, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, ensuring sustainability beyond the football pitch. During halftime, Ernst might express his thoughts on the importance of environmental conservation, echoing the sentiments of his father, Thomas Ernst, a founding member of the Green Sports Alliance in the USA.
