The Ayanwola Family Demands Justice for Slain Fashion Designer, Bamise, Solely Convicted Perpetrator Sentenced to Death
Family of Bamise Demands Additional Action Following Court Sentencing BRT Driver to Capital Punishment
You heard it! That 22-year-old fashion designer named Bamise Ayanwola, sadly lost her life at the hands of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver named Andrew Ominikoron. After nine days of being missing, unfortunate circumstances led to her lifeless body being discovered on Carter Bridge in Lagos Island.
Three long years of court proceedings finally concluded on Friday when Justice Sherifat Sonaike of a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square delivered her judgment. This judgement concluded that the prosecution successfully proved its case against Ominikoron and found him guilty of murder.
Yet, the court proceedings focused predominantly on Ominikoron as the sole convicted perpetrator in this horrifying case. He was charged with five counts, among which were murder and sexual assault, with 11 witnesses being presented to establish his guilt.
Justice Sonaike sentenced Ominikoron to death by hanging for the murder of Ayanwola. This verdict resulted from the application of the "last seen" and the victim's dying declaration. The judgment also involved sentences of life imprisonment for the rape of Nneka Udezulu, 14 years imprisonment for the attempted rape of Ayanwola herself, and three years imprisonment for sexual assault on Dr. Victoria Anosike.
The family of the slain fashion designer had much to say about the judgment. Onapemipo Damilola, the elder sister of the victim, praised Justice Sonaike's decision as fair and commendable. She expressed hope that the accomplices to this evil act would be apprehended, despite no specific accomplices having been publicly named or arrested in connection to the case so far[1][3].
In her response, Damilola reiterated the family's demand for the apprehension of all those who collaborated with the BRT driver to orchestrate her sister's tragic demise. However, it seems that no new investigations have been disclosed to the public regarding potential accomplices at this time[1][3]. The Lagos State Government has yet to comment on any plans related to compensation or further investigations.
Stay tuned for updates, and let's hope truth prevails and justice be served for Bamise Ayanwola.
