Families of Rebsamen school victims lament delayed sentences for perpetrators, asserting their dissatisfaction

On the eighth anniversary of the Colegio Rebsamen tragedy, a memorial service was held at a memorial built on Alameda Sur. The event, which took place in a private school located in Tlalpan's municipality, was attended by the families of Raúl Alexis, José Eduardo, Paola Mireya, and Gloria González, victims of the tragic event.

The mass began with Father Sergio, who was present at the religious ceremony, leading the gathering in prayer. Four floral wreaths, each bearing the names of the girl and boy victims, were placed on the pillars of the memorial before the service commenced.

The Colegio Rebsamen tragedy occurred on September 19, 2017, when a 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico City. The disaster claimed the lives of 26 people, 19 of whom were students. The memorial service served as a poignant reminder of the lives lost and the ongoing struggle for justice.

Oscar Vargas, father of Raúl Alexis, spoke at the service, stating that two directors responsible for the work at the school are still awaiting sentencing. The former mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera, and other officials are currently being investigated and face legal proceedings for their responsibility in the 2017 Colegio Rebsamen collapse.

The religious ceremony ended with Father Sergio sprinkling holy water on the pillars of the memorial, signifying a sense of hope and healing for the families present. The service was a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the ongoing fight for justice, as well as a testament to the resilience of the community in the face of tragedy.
