Germany Weather Forecast: Summer Heat Gives Way to Rain and Thunderstorms
The German Weather Service (DWD) has predicted a shift in weather patterns for the coming days, with temperatures rising before a notable transition to rain and thunderstorms.
From Wednesday through Friday, maximum temperatures will range roughly from 27 to 37°C, with the hottest day expected on Friday in eastern parts, reaching up to 37°C. However, this warm spell will be short-lived, as thunder showers and weather deterioration are predicted to start on Friday afternoon in northern and western regions and spread further east on Saturday.
By Saturday afternoon and evening, lots of rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast, especially in areas like Bavaria where temperatures will reach about 28°C during the day and fall to 17°C at night with thunderstorm risk from afternoon to evening. Following this stormy period, a cooling trend is expected on Sunday and into early September, with maximum temperatures dropping to 17–26°C accompanied by rain and thunder.
The DWD expects this transition to be accompanied by increased instability, with a possibility of local severe storms or disasters associated with this weather pattern. Thunderstorm warnings especially apply to northern and central Germany from Friday onward with local severe weather possible.
The "dog days" of summer, marked by high temperatures, will end on Saturday, and temperatures are expected to drop, at least for now. A live map showing current temperatures and weather conditions in Germany is available at Windy.com, with options to switch views and receive a forecast of the coming days.
An interactive map showing the weather in real-time is also available, with the displayed layer on the map able to be switched to Thunderstorms, Rain, or Snow. Some of the maps used are from wetter.de and Windy.com.
In the north, it remains dry in the morning, while showers are expected in the south and southwest. Thunderstorms are expected in the southwest from the morning, particularly south of the Danube in the afternoon.
In summary, expect warm to hot conditions until Friday, then a notable transition to rain and thunderstorms starting Friday afternoon and spreading Saturday, accompanied by cooler temperatures over the weekend. The DWD's map of thunderstorm warnings for today and tomorrow can be found above.
