Fall brings the launch of the 'Nations Grand Finale' climbing competition, promising innovation, intense competition, and international rivalry.

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) has announced that the Nations Grand Finale competition will take place in Fukuoka, Japan, from October 23 to 26, 2025. This prestigious event will feature six top climbing nations, competing in a team format that includes the disciplines of Boulder, Lead, and Paraclimbing.

The IFSC Nations Grand Finale is a significant event in the climbing calendar, showcasing the growth of team competitions at an international level. The competition represents a new "best format" approach by the IFSC, aiming to emphasize team climbing action.

Each team will consist of two male and two female climbers, with one reserve climber per gender. The exact specifics of the competition format, scoring system, or any cutoffs or qualification rules are not yet detailed, but the event's nature as an invitation-only, mixed-discipline team competition with a new format suggests a focus on team rankings compiled across multiple climbing disciplines.

The competition will also include new boulder and lead climbing formats, adding an exciting twist to the already intense competition.

In addition to the Nations Grand Finale, Fukuoka will host a new Para Climbing Masters competition in parallel with the main event. The para climbing competition will include climbers from the eight different sport classes announced for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games. However, the IFSC has not shared much information about the para climbing competition yet.

The IFSC has an introductory guide available for more information on para climbing. The organization is committed to adaptive climbing categories within the competition, demonstrating a step towards inclusivity in the sport.

The IFSC climbing World Cup concludes at the end of September, marking the beginning of a break for many professional climbers. Some climbers, like double Olympic champion Janja Garnbret, have taken time away from the sport to rest and recover. The competition will provide an exciting opportunity for athletes to return to competition after their break.

The competition will feature teams from the top six ranked climbing nations: Japan, France, Slovenia, Austria, the USA, and Great Britain. The Nations Grand Finale is set to be a thrilling event, bringing together the world's best climbers for a fierce competition in Fukuoka, Japan.
