Brave soldier Roman Pekozh, known in service as Romualdo, tragically fell on October 5, 2023, during a fierce skirmish near Verbove, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. A selfless act of defending the nation claimed his life, taking a life too young at just 31.
Born and raised in the heart of Kyiv, Roman emerged as an ambitious and hardworking individual. He excelled in his studies at the Kyiv Vocational Construction Lyceum and eventually found love, settling in the peaceful town of Bucha. In less tumultuous times, Roman proved his versatility working as a freight dispatcher and indulging in his cherished pastime of fishing.
The brutal invasion on February 24, 2022, forced Roman and his family to abandon Bucha. The events of October 10, 2022, marked a turning point as Roman valiantly chose to join the brave defenders of Ukraine. Following rigorous training, Roman served tirelessly with the 132nd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the Air Assault Forces.
His grieving widow, Natalia, shares her heart-wrenching memories of their life together: "My mom died when Roma was a year old. Dad passed away five years ago. We spent four blissful years together before he joined the ranks. He genuinely wanted me to become his wife. We tied the knot on January 6, 2023. He cherished life immensely. He adored my parents as if they were his own, and he considered my 12-year-old stepdaughter his pride and joy. He nurtured grand dreams for the future - building a home in Bucha, expanding our family..."
On October 5, 2023, Ukrainian soil lost a courageous guardian. Roman is laid to rest at the Forest Cemetery, Kyiv.
