Miyu Yamashita: Rising Star in Women's Professional Golf

Miyu Yamashita, a 24-year-old golfer from Osaka, Japan, has made a significant impact on the world of professional golf. Her journey began at the tender age of five, and since turning professional in 2020, she has amassed an impressive list of achievements.

In 2022, Yamashita claimed five wins on the Japan LPGA Tour (JLPGA), including the Japan LPGA Tour Championship Ricoh Cup, which she successfully defended. She also made her mark on the LPGA Tour of Japan, where she became the first player to shoot 60 in the first round of the Miyagi TV Cup Dunlop Ladies Open Golf Tournament.

Yamashita's success continued into 2023, as she was crowned Player of the Year on the JLPGA and led the tour in earnings. Her most recent win on the JLPGA was at the 2024 Daio Paper Elleair Ladies Open.

However, it was her rookie season on the LPGA Tour in 2025 that truly cemented Yamashita's status as a rising star. At the AIG Women’s Open, she became the sixth Japanese major champion overall and the fourth Japanese player to capture a women’s major in the last two years. Her victory came after rounds of 68, 65, 74, and 70, finishing the tournament at 11-under 277.

Yamashita's success was built on her strong skills in scrambling (66.42% success rate) and hitting greens in regulation (over 77%). Her composure and clutch putting on the final holes helped her hold off strong challengers like Charley Hull, showcasing her mental toughness under pressure.

Born on August 2nd, 2001, Yamashita's victory was celebrated as a historic moment, with family and fellow Japanese tour players supporting her. Her win extended the LPGA Tour streak to 20 tournaments without a repeat winner in the 2025 season.

Prior to joining the LPGA Tour, Yamashita captured her first victory on the LPGA of Japan Tour at the 2021 KKT Cup Vantelin Ladies Open. She also made her Major debut at the 2022 AIG Women's Open held at Muirfield, finishing in solo 13th place.

Standing at just 150cm tall, Yamashita represented Japan at the 2024 Olympics at Le Golf National and finished tied for fourth. Her determination and skill have made her a force to be reckoned with in the world of golf.
