Factor's latest Aluto gravel bike aspires to excel in various aspects, boasting a standout characteristic that particularly appeals to me
In a recent announcement, Factor Bikes has launched a news gravel bike called the Aluto. This versatile bike aims to redefine the all-rounder category, offering a dropbox of performance and versatility. The Aluto comes with a distinctive frame design, taking cues from various models across the Factor range, including the lightweight O2 VAM. The frame is electronic and hydraulic only, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. It retains 2x compatibility in its design, catering to a wide range of riders. One of the standout features of the Aluto is its compatibility with suspension seatpost use. This feature, along with seat stay insertions similar to those of the new Monza and an unnamed prototype, promises a comfortable and stable ride, even on rough terrains. The Aluto also boasts an all-new cockpit from Black Inc. The HB05 cockpit features a flare of 14mm, a drop of 115mm, and a reduced reach, providing a comfortable and aerodynamic riding position. The cockpit is compatible with dropper posts, adding to the bike's versatility. The Aluto retains a traditional setup with an external clamp, but with a twist. It features a top tube similar to the O2 VAM, with bosses built in for a dropbox. This design element, along with a downtube storage box like the Monza, and additional bosses for water or tool storage, ensures that the Aluto is well-equipped for long rides. The Aluto's geometry is distinct from the Ostro Gravel, with a slacker head tube angle and a higher bottom bracket drop. These changes, combined with an increased bottom bracket drop and longer wheelbase, should make the Aluto more stable at higher speeds. The Aluto is available in two paint options: Raptor Blue and Quattro Grey. SRAM UDH compatibility is confirmed for the Aluto, adding to its wide-ranging compatibility. Interestingly, the Gravel brand that developed the new Aluto model is Megamo, known for their Silk MY26 gravel bike. The Aluto can fit a tyre up to 45mm, with the fork able to accommodate a 52mm tyre and the rear triangle a 47mm tyre, providing ample clearance for various terrains. The Aluto is available as a frameset for $3,999/€4,699/£3,999, offering a high-quality and versatile option for gravel enthusiasts. With its unique features and versatile design, the Aluto is set to make a significant impact in the gravel bike market.
