Faction Led by Uddhav Thackeray Oversees Another Round of Major Defections
In the ongoing political drama in Maharashtra, six out of nine Lok Sabha MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) are reported to be shifting their loyalties to the Eknath Shinde-led faction of the party.
Amidst these rumours, Arvind Sawant, a leader from the Shiv Sena (UBT), has asserted that the party remains 100% united under Uddhav Thackeray's leadership. He reiterated that there are cracks in the Mahayuti government and dismissed reports of any defections from the UBT.
On the other hand, Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant, who is part of the Eknath Shinde-led faction, believes that Shinde's leadership is better than that of Uddhav Thackeray. Samant also predicted that around 12 leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents, including the Shiv Sena (UBT), will join the Eknath Shinde-led party within the next three months.
Samant further asserted that he, along with many other leaders from the Uddhav Thackeray camp, will soon join the Shiv Sena under Shinde's leadership. He claimed that several leaders from the Thackeray faction are in touch with his party and will be inducted in phases.
The Thackeray faction, however, has denied these reports, calling them rumours spread by the rival camp. They dismissed reports of another split in the party and insisted that all 11 UBT MPs, including nine from Lok Sabha and two from Rajya Sabha, were present at the inauguration of an office allotted to the Shiv Sena (UBT) at the Parliament.
The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction has been accused of spreading rumours about defections in the party to divert attention from the Mahayuti government's failures in Maharashtra. Despite the allegations, the exact date for the planned migration of approximately 12 members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi to the party led by Eknath Shinde remains unclear.
As the political landscape in Maharashtra continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these shifting alliances will impact the future of the state's politics.
