Allegations of Israeli troops infiltrating the Gaza Strip's southern sector have surfaced. These reports suggest troops are stationed east of Chan Junis, but as of now, confirmation remains elusive. The Israeli military declined to comment on these claims.
Israeli forces had already been deployed in Gaza's northern regions for weeks, carrying out extensive aerial attacks. Following the ceasefire's demise, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his commitment to the prolonged war against Hamas. The Times of Israel reported that Netanyahu deemed a ground offensive necessary for decisive victory over the Islamist group.
Leading U.S. politicians urged Israel to prioritize protecting civilians amidst the conflict. Negotiations for a new ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas had reached an impasse. Hamas insisted on halting hostage releases until Israel ceased aggression and secured a permanent ceasefire.
In sharp contrast, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder condemned Israel's actions in the southern Gaza Strip. He alleged that the attacks were immoral, illegal, and anyone remaining silent was complicit. "Silence is complicity," Elder declared.
