Man from Novorossiysk Share Details of Terrifying Drone Attacks

Andrew (alias), a local resident of Novorossiysk, shared his harrowing experience with Gazeta.Ru about the nocturnal drone raids by the Ukrainian military. The affected residential building "Aurora" is merely 500 meters away from his home.

Around 3:00 AM, the assault kicked off, and something exploded close by at 4:00. Andrew and his family didn't venture outside because of the siren, gunfire, and the base's response to the onslaught. The scene was a series of booms - they lost count after the fourth. Then, a lull ensued, followed by the sound of an approaching UAV that sped up. The impact registered powerfully - their house vibrated, even though it was 500 meters from the affected building. A similar incident occurred approximately a year prior, but it involved only boats; this time, the assault involved both boats and UAVs.

Following the assault, Andrew noticed that the internet in the Aurora area was disrupted for nearly a day, before services were restored around noon. He suspected that electronic warfare might have caused this network outage as his phone indicated 4G connectivity, but he couldn't access the internet.

Governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratiev, later reported that the nighttime attacks on Novorossiysk had caused damage to eight apartments in three apartment buildings. Five individuals, including two children, sustained injuries. The debris from the drones landed in the villages of Yurvka and Tsibanobalka, under Anapa, as well as in the Stanitsa Tamany of the Temryuk district. Unfortunately, there's no information about any injuries in these areas.

In earlier incidents, drone attacks had targeted novorossiysk, and in the Rostov region, rooftops of residential buildings caught fire.

Insights:- The Novorossiysk drone attacks (May 2-3, 2025) have disrupted oil export capacity, resulting in critical vulnerabilities for Russia's crude shipments and global energy shipping, causing oil price volatility.- The assault damaged apartment buildings and grain terminal facilities, increasing the risk for civilian areas and global markets.- At least four individuals have been injured, including two children. A higher number of casualties were reported in the retaliatory Russian drone attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine.

This pattern of escalation shows Ukrainian forces consistently targeting Novorossiysk to disrupt military logistics and energy exports, with drone attacks becoming a recurring threat to civilian areas. Russian defenses claimed to have intercepted 47 drones over Krasnodar Krai during the May 2-3 operation.
