Eye-popping turnout at Karlsruhe's gigantic concert with 90,000 attendees

The city of Karlsruhe is gearing up for a historic night as the legendary rock band AC/DC prepares to perform at the Messe Karlsruhe on Sunday, August 17. With an anticipated attendance of around 90,000 fans, this concert is set to be one of the biggest in Karlsruhe's history.

Public Transportation

To accommodate the large influx of fans, the local transport company VBK is significantly expanding the public transportation service for the event. Additional trams and buses will run, and the concert ticket itself serves as a valid ticket for public transport within the entire Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) network. This extended validity also covers regional transit in Baden-Württemberg on the event day. Approximately 15,000 attendees are expected to use public transit, and this arrangement is part of a coordinated transportation plan involving multiple stakeholders to ensure smooth travel to and from the venue.

Parking

While specific details on car parking arrangements or availability for the AC/DC concert at Messe Karlsruhe are not yet available, it is advisable to check Messe Karlsruhe's official website or local event updates closer to the concert day for precise information.

However, numerous parking spaces for bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters are available on site without traffic jams or parking search. In the main departure time, buses run at intervals of up to 2 minutes.

Restrictions and Road Closures

Access restrictions apply around the trade fair grounds in Rheinstetten, Forchheim, Moersch, Silberstreifen, Daxlanden, and Oberreut on the concert day. A section of the B36 is completely closed, and only residents with appropriate proof can pass these restricted areas.

Travel Advice

Organizers strongly recommend using buses, trains, or bicycles to reach the concert. Street closures and full trains are expected due to the massive visitor flows, and waiting times of up to 2 hours on the return journey are expected despite massive staff deployment. Fans coming to the concert by car are required to have a pre-booked parking space, which costs between 20 and 30 euros depending on the location. Long walks or shuttle rides may be associated with pre-booked parking spaces.

Additional 39 trains, 27 buses, and a shuttle schedule between the main station and the trade fair are operating for the concert.

This concert is one of only three concerts in Germany by the cult band, pushing the city to its logistical limits. The surrounding area, particularly Rheinstetten, anticipates massive visitor flows, closed streets, and full trains. The city of Karlsruhe has started early planning for the event and asks for fan patience.
