Extremist Group Armilar Lusitano Has Given Rise to More Security Personnel Associations
Unleashing the Extreme Right: New Revelations About the Armilar Lusitano Crew
Here's the lowdown on the unveiling of more faces connected to the controversial far-right group, Armilar Lusitano. This revelation joins the ongoing investigation by the Judicial Police, following the arrest of an influential PSP (Public Security Police) agent. initially, it appears that around 20 people have been targeted. Out of this list, roughly three individuals have surfaced as potential allies of the suspected extremist group.
Last week, authorities detained six individuals in a PJ operation. Of the six, four were temporarily imprisoned due to the apprehension of a flight risk and the potential for ongoing criminal activity, as emphasized by the Public Ministry and the Judicial Police. Evidently, this PSP officer is believed to be instrumental in cultivating new members for Armilar Lusitano, a militant organization allegedly engaged in terrorist activities, discrimination, hate speech, and violent acts.
The PSP agent under scrutiny, who served in the Lisbon Municipal Police, was once embroiled in a controversial disciplinary case in 2013. He was suspected of fatally shooting an presumed 18-year-old robber, a case that was subsequently archived by the General Inspectorate of Internal Administration (IGAI), on the grounds that the officer acted in self-protection, according to Público.
It's reported that the PSP agent is more than just a troublemaker, as three additional cases were brought against him. However, the specifics of these cases have yet to be verified by the PSP to the Portuguese broadcaster SIC.
The Armilar Lusitano gang is accused of terrorist activities, as well as illicit possession of prohibited weapons, some of which are said to be uniquely-manufactured using 3D printers, a rarity in Portuguese criminal circles.
To SIC, the National Counter-Terrorism Unit coordinator claimed that, as of yet, there is no evidence of any existing criminal schemes. However, leaked messages from closed group conversations indicate that members have implicitly discussed potential attacks on institutions and prominent public figures.
Two suspects will need to check-in with the authorities every week.
