Munich is bracing itself for a stormy Pentecost weekend! Don't count on sunbathing and beer garden visits just yet—rainy days and a significant drop in temperature to near-winter values are on the horizon.

Munich—Bavaria's erupting summer break just in time for Pentecost weekend! Instead of sun-soaked days, Bavarians can expect messy weather instead. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts non-stop rain and gusty winds[1].

Saturday is shaping up to be the worst weather day. A weather front will divide Bavaria in two: the southeast will see warm, moist air while the northwest gets cooler marine air[1].

The North Wind Comes Sweeping Down the Free State

One particularly unfortunate element will be the wind. In open Franconian and Upper Palatinate areas, expect wind gusts of up to 60 km/h[1]. In higher mountain regions, storm gusts can reach an astonishing 70 km/h[1].

Munich on Saturday: No sign of summer's warmth

Temperatures are projected to reach 16 degrees Celsius in the morning, climb to 19 degrees at midday, and reach 21 degrees late afternoon—but it'll still feel like winter! A moderate, gusty southwesterly wind will make it feel frigid[1].

No Improvement on Pentecost Sunday

Those hoping for better weather on Pentecost Sunday will be sorely disappointed. Shifting to showery, scattered clouds, occasional thunderstorms are on the menu. However, the rain will eventually ease from the south, and the sun will peek through more often as the afternoon and evening set in[1].

When skies clear on Tuesday, temperatures will rebound to 18–24 degrees Celsius. While northern areas will remain cloudy, expect a bright, dry day overall[1]. But after the sun sets, temperatures will drop to the single digits[1].

Pentecost Travel Tips

Despite the chilly weather, Whitsun travelers must pack for all conditions: rain jackets, sweaters, and warm socks are crucial[1]! Be prepared to make the most of the long weekend rain or shine.

From June 14th, Munich will host the Pride Weeks, typically taking place under more typical summer weather conditions when events like festivals and celebrations happen[4]. Look forward to colorful and vibrant citywide celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community!
