Extreme heat wave in UAE today: Thermometer reaches 48 degrees Celsius; warnings for dust and fog issued
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a dust alert for August 15, 2025, warning residents about dusty conditions and reduced visibility.
According to the forecast, horizontal visibility in parts of the UAE is expected to drop below 2,000 meters due to dusty conditions driven by strong winds and dust storms. The alert is particularly relevant for the Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai areas, with the visibility at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai expected to be significantly affected.
The dust alert is in effect from 8 am to 5 pm on August 15. Along with the dusty conditions, residents should also be aware of strong southeasterly winds reaching up to 45 km/h, causing blowing dust and sand, further reducing visibility over some internal and coastal areas.
The UAE weather on August 15 will be dusty and partly cloudy at times. There is a probability of some convective cloud eastward by afternoon, and the conditions may become cloudy by night over Eastern and Southern areas, with an increase in temperatures.
Light to moderate winds, freshening at times, will cause blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility, especially eastward and northward. Temperatures in Dubai will range from 34°C to 44°C, while that of Abu Dhabi will remain between 33°C and 47°C. Extreme temperatures continue in the UAE, with temperatures in internal areas reaching 48.5°C.
In addition to the dust alert, the NCM has warned of foggy conditions on Friday morning. The met department has also mentioned a possibility of some convective cloud and an increase in temperatures in the evening over Eastern and Southern areas.
The sea will be slight to moderate in the Oman Sea, while it will be moderate and might become rough at times in the offshore of the Arabian Gulf. Sharjah will see a high of 45°C and a low of 33°C.
Residents are urged to exercise caution while stepping out due to foggy conditions. The NCM advises everyone to stay updated with the latest weather updates and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
