extraordinary train journey recounting a genuine tale of everyday people demonstrating remarkable bravery under extreme, life-endangering situations
In the heart of Hollywood, director Clint Eastwood embarked on a unique journey with the release of his latest film, "The 15:17 to Paris." The film is a testament to the idea that the common man can have great instincts and act on them, as seen in the heroic trio of Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone.
The film stars a talented ensemble cast, including Judy Greer, Jenna Fischer, P.J. Byrne, Tony Hale, and Thomas Lennon, among others. Behind the scenes, production designer Kevin Ishioka worked tirelessly to capture the right look and feel of various locations, despite not filming in all of them.
The story unfolds as a tribute to ordinary individuals taking extraordinary action under intense, life-threatening circumstances. It follows the lives of the three men, from childhood through finding their footing in life, to the events leading up to the attack on the train.
On August 21, 2015, the three men prevented a terrorist attack on Thalys train #9364 bound for Paris. Their actions earned them the Legion of Honor and inspired them to write their story, which was adapted for the screen by Dorothy Blyskal.
Blyskal, a native of Easton, Pennsylvania, made her feature screenplay debut with "The 15:17 to Paris." She co-authored the book with the three heroes and has a rich background in international policy, having worked as a freelance writer in Afghanistan and co-authoring a proposal for a women's business program.
Tom Stern, the director of photography, brought his expertise to the project, having previously shot in narrow workspaces, such as in "Sully" inside an airplane. The filmmakers were determined to shoot the film in as many of the actual locations as possible, including Italy, France, and on a real train.
The Thalys organization was instrumental in helping the filmmakers navigate the uncharted logistics of shooting a feature film on a train. Being in the actual locations helped the actors feel like they had come full circle and reestablished the environments for the film.
Jessica Meier, another producer, notes that the three men in the film have a balance to their friendship and different personalities that complement each other. The producers behind "The 15:17 to Paris" included Gary Goetzman, and the film featured the three real-life heroes in the main roles to authentically portray their true story and increase realism.
Clint Eastwood directs this inspiring tale, demonstrating once again his ability to bring real-life stories to the big screen in a way that resonates with audiences worldwide. "The 15:17 to Paris" is a must-see for anyone who appreciates the power of the human spirit and the extraordinary actions of ordinary individuals.
