Explosive scoring spree in the initial half, with eight goals.
In a thrilling encounter at the Allianz Arena, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus Turin played out a dramatic 4-4 draw in their Champions League opener.
The game started disjointed, with Dortmund hardly threatening in the first half. Gregor Kobel, the Dortmund goalkeeper, had to make a save early in the game to keep Juventus from scoring.
Niko Kovac, coach of Dortmund, had emphasized the importance of starting well in the Champions League, but his team struggled to find their rhythm.
However, the second half saw a different story. In the 52nd minute, Karim Adeyemi scored for Dortmund from just outside the penalty area, celebrating in front of the Dortmund fans. The goal seemed to inject some much-needed confidence into the team.
But Juventus responded quickly. Kenan Yildiz equalized for Juventus with a dream goal, and just moments later, Felix Nmecha scored for Dortmund to restore their lead.
The hosts, Juventus, increasingly went on the offensive in the second half. Loïs Openda performed an overhead kick in the Dortmund penalty area, but it was ruled offside. Dusan Vlahovic then scored twice for Juventus to equalize, and Lloyd Kelly scored the final goal for the Italian side.
Vlahovic also set up Kelly's goal in the dying minutes of the game, much to the disappointment of Dortmund, who remained unbeaten this season but felt the result was disappointing given the course of the game.
Kobel criticized the team for playing immaturely in the final minutes of the game, while Maximilian Beier hit the post from a very acute angle in a late attempt to salvage a win for Dortmund.
Ramy Bensebaini scored a penalty for Dortmund, and Yan Couto capitalized on a defensive error to score with a shot into the near corner, making it 3-2 for Dortmund at one point. Guirassy had a chance to make it 2-0 for Dortmund but failed from close range against Juve keeper Michele Di Gregorio.
Igor Tudor's team showed some nice passing moves going forward and earned several corners, but it was Dortmund who ultimately took the lead in the game. As for the trainer of Juventus, while specific confirmation for this match is not provided in the results, Massimiliano Allegri is typically associated with Juventus.
Despite the disappointing result, Dortmund will look to build on their performances and continue their unbeaten run in their next Champions League game.
