On Thursday evening, September 18, 2025, a World War II bomb was successfully defused in Cologne-Porz. The bomb disposal operation, which began at 21:00, was carried out by the bomb disposal unit Rhineland, with the city of Cologne's public order office and federal police officers on site.

The authorities had set the danger zone around the bomb at a radius of 300 meters, prompting the evacuation of approximately 2,300 people from the affected houses. The public order office conducted door-to-door visits during the evacuation phase to ensure everyone's safety.

During the operation, several bus lines in Porz were rerouted, and Porz Station was completely closed to traffic. Federal police officers evacuated Porz Station, and no S-Bahn or regional trains stopped in Porz during the operation.

The delay in approving the detonation of the bomb was due to local authorities' safety concerns and coordination issues. However, the all-clear was given for the bomb disposal at 21:30 on September 18, 2025, marking the successful completion of the operation.

A reception point was set up at Porz City Gym in Humboldtstraße 2 for those who were evacuated. The city of Cologne announced the granting of permission for the bomb disposal at the same time the operation began.

The bomb disposal operation in Cologne-Porz was a significant event that required careful planning and execution. The successful outcome is a testament to the cooperation and dedication of all those involved in ensuring the safety of the citizens of Cologne.
