During a recent trip to Galway, the author of this article had an eventful day at the races. Despite their horse, Saint Clovis, whipping out from underneath them before the race, they managed to land on their feet and jog a furlong before rejoining the field. The race itself was rough, with horses running keen and green.
In the midst of the race, the author had a conversation with Harry Swan about settling horses in the race. Following the race, the author apologized to Harry Swan for their behavior during the race. The author's horse trailed in tenth or twelfth place, still a length behind Toll Stone.
After the race, the author embarked on the familiar, yet challenging, journey home. They drove faster than they should and listened to Jenny Greene on the radio. Despite knowing all the bumps and potholes on the dark and windy road of 115 miles, they hit a bump too fast, damaging the underside of the car. With two hours to kill until the bumper could be repaired, the author spent time in the physio room, canteen, and watched Danny Mullins and Slippers Madden play darts.
In the end, Saint Clovis finished third in the race, and Noel Meade lodged an appeal against a reversal in the Galway Hurdle. The author's adventure at the Galway races was filled with ups and downs, but the love for horse racing remained constant.
