Exploring the Documentary Talk: "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet" at the Local City Museum on Thursdays
On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Halle City Museum invites you to an enlightening evening of history and storytelling. The event, in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, will feature the screening of the documentary '9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet (Children of Exile)' at 6 PM.
The documentary tells the poignant story of children who were refugees from Chile during the Cold War, as they navigated the challenges of a new life. The film's main protagonist, Claudia González, will share her personal experiences of the 1973 coup and her journey as a child refugee. Claudia González, the daughter of Chilean refugees, fled Chile with her mother and brother Rodrigo González, who later became a member of the band 'Die Ärzte'.
The evening will be moderated by historian Dr. René Wiese, and a discussion with the filmmaker Thomas Grimm and eyewitness Claudia González will follow the screening.
Prior to the documentary screening, visitors are invited to explore the exhibition 'Coming and Going', which focuses on immigration to and from Halle (Saale). This exhibition is a part of the permanent exhibition on the history of Halle (Saale) and is accessible between 6 PM and the start of the film. Dr. Maik Evers, a guide who leads the exhibition section 'Kommen und Gehen' in the permanent exhibition, will guide the visit to the exhibition 'Coming and Going'.
