Exploring the depths of the Le Mans pre-season, highlighting this weekend's Super Cup event at the Roland-Garros stadium.
After a five-week hiatus, Antares basketball team is back in action. Life at the premises resumed on August 11, marking the start of the preseason for coach Guillaume Vizade and his team.
The team's physical preparation coach, Pierre Golvan, has shaped the first weeks of training in collaboration with Vizade. Golvan integrates cardio work into basketball sessions to ensure physical preparation is linked to the activity.
The players have been following a self-imposed summer routine, with Thomas engaging in five weekly sessions that include weightlifting, basketball, yoga, and swimming. David Dileo, another player, had initially four extra kilos upon returning to play but is expected to improve.
Jonathan Jeanne, a returning pivot, worked on strengthening his lower body, shoulders, and core during the summer with a physical preparation coach. Wilfried Yeguete, the team's captain, notes that modern basketball players often maintain their physical condition during the summer.
The medical team conducts mandatory tests and examinations such as echocardiograms, treadmill effort tests, isokinetic exercises, spirometry, blood tests, doctor visits, osteopath, and podiatrist visits. The old-style preseason field work without a ball for a week or ten days is a thing of the past at Antares. The technical staff aims to minimize wasted time during the short preparation period by focusing on "ball-ball" activities immediately.
The MSB team will have a chance to calibrate itself more during a semi-final match at Roland-Garros this Saturday. Vizade has crossed paths with notable figures like Joe Mazzulla, the coach of the Boston Celtics, and Jeff Van Gundy, assistant coach of the Clippers, this summer.
The staff at Antares includes Vizade, Marie Dodard (kinesiologist), KJ Smith (assistant), Antoine Mathieu (offensive play), Jordan Bernard (Hope coach). The MSB vessel is resonating with the sounds of sneakers, music, power tools, and the smell of fresh paint.
TaShawn Thomas, another player, notes that university preseasons often involve running a lot without touching the ball, but basketball practice helps find rhythm. Yeguete remembers tough university preseasons with early morning training, classes, and cardio sessions.
David Dileo and Thomas are not the only ones improving their physical condition. The team is determined to be in top shape for the upcoming season, and the preseason is the perfect time to work towards that goal. With the team's intense training routine and the collaboration between the coaching staff and physical preparation coach, Antares is set for a successful season.
