Exploring Different Dimensions: The More Sides of Everything Album by Riya & Collette Warren

In the vibrant world of Drum & Bass, Carnelian Music, a label with a unique approach, has been making waves. Co-founders Riya and Collette Warren have been nominated for Best New Label at the DNBA awards for the past two years, and this year marks their last chance to compete in this category.

The duo, known for their energetic sets, had their first set together as DJ and host at Fabio's night Tribe at XOYO. Their journey, however, hasn't been without its challenges. The early years of Carnelian Music, specifically the first two years, are not well-documented, and the specific difficulties Riya and Collette faced during this period remain largely unknown. For a comprehensive understanding of their early struggles, further research or direct interviews with the co-founders might be necessary.

Despite these challenges, Carnelian Music has seen significant success. One of their most recent achievements is the release of the remix album, 'More Sides of Everything', on October 13th, 2023. The album's five singles have received support from a host of renowned DJs, including DJ Marky, Doc Scott, Loxy, Sigma, Roni Size, Voltage, Serum, Natty Lou, Conrad Subs, Telomic, Random Movement, Charli Brix, and many others.

One major hurdle that Carnelian Music faced was a vinyl pressing delay in 2021, a result of the worldwide shortage of materials due to Covid. This delay caused an 8-month delay in delivery and a doubling of the original price.

Looking forward, Carnelian Music has an exciting lineup. Riya and Collette have upcoming releases, a single from Gemma Rose, and plans for Carnelian Music nights in Bristol and beyond in 2024. The label's unique approach, where vocalists' names come first on releases, continues to set them apart.

The remix project for 'More Sides of Everything' was conceived as a way to give tracks that didn't get as much attention a chance to shine, and to keep the Two Sides movement going. The album features remixes from Bladerunner, Paul T & Edward Oberon, Myth, Acuna, The Vanguard Project, Phaction, Georgia Phoenix, L-Side & Sl8r (VIPs), and more.

Initially, Riya and Collette had planned to release various artist EPs and albums, but found it challenging due to lack of resources. They have, however, managed to bring new artists through, host a vocalist stage at Sun and Bass, release custom merchandise, start podcasts, and have their own Kool FM radio show.

Riya and Collette are also working on a big release with a big artist, but details are yet to be revealed. The Luke Truth remix of 'Surrender', a track produced by Phil:osophy and featuring Tali, is one such exciting release from the album. This remix was a result of Luke Truth winning a Carnelian Music vocalist competition two years ago.

The support that Riya and Collette have received from various people and organizations, including Skank & Bass & Glitch Audio, Michael at Sketchbook Design, Haden Ill Truth, Drew Villem, Fabio Alibi, and Teebee, has been instrumental in their success. Promoters Charlotte Devaney & Fabio, Stefano at Sun and Bass, and their publishers S2K have also played significant roles.

As Carnelian Music continues to grow and evolve, it's clear that Riya and Collette's determination and unique approach are driving forces in the label's success. Their journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring Drum & Bass artists and label owners alike.

The unique approach of Carnelian Music, including their focus on entertainment and music, has been driving their success in the vibrant Drum & Bass world. Their energetic sets, remix albums, and collaborations with renowned DJs and artists showcase their commitment to providing top-notch music experiences.
