Explaining the Frenzy of the '80s, Lionel Richie Reveals His Perspective - Explaining the 1980s buzz, Lionel Richie shares his insights.
Lionel Richie, the legendary pop titan (75), spills the beans about the enduring allure of the '80s--even amongst the young'uns. According to him, it's all about the "real deal" (wink). But hey, don't go calling this guy's wisdom a bunch of "strange" stuff. Of course, he's referring to the good ol' fashioned "substance" (cough authenticity cough) in the music game.
"Back in the day, each song had a story behind it," Richie reminisces in the recent issue of bonified German mag, "Zeit Magazin". Yes, my friends, this isn't your ordinary one-man-and-fourteen-ghostwriters situation. The '80s superstars told their own tales-- no writing committees necessary.
"Why wear this fancy get-up?" he rhetorically questions (rolls eyes duhh). Well, let's see... 1980s fashion, sweetie. Back then, the King rocked his endearing afro, the Queen flaunted her oh-so-iconic bow, and Prince? Oh, Prince was Prince. Period. They were original characters straight outta a comicbook--not some plastic, fake-tanned actors trying to cash in.
"And, well, it wasn't all just a glitzy circus," Richie continues. "People actually poured their creativity into it--ingenuity that's still echoing today." Don't fool yourself, kids. People still attempt to recreate that genuine, affliction-free 80s vibe... but nothing compares to the real thing. The 80s was when art and self-expression found their groove, baby.
