Wind Warnings Issued for Black Forest: Prepare for Gale-Force Gales
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for gale-force winds in the Black Forest, with experts predicting gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour. In the higher altitudes of the Baden and Swabian mountains, heavy squalls or gale-force gusts of up to 110 km/h are expected. Low-lying areas in the entire state may experience widespread squalls at around 80 kilometers per hour.
"Strong stuff," said the DWD meteorologist. "Forests, parks, and cemeteries may see falling branches or trees." Many trees remain heavily foliaged, providing ample surface area for the wind to attack.
The peak of the storm depression, featuring the highest wind speeds, is expected on Sunday around midday. Although the storm will subside slightly by the evening, stormy gusts are also forecasted for the mountains on Monday night.
"Early in the week, the whole country will remain windy and unpredictable," warned experts. On Monday, residents can expect everything from sunny spells to showers and individual thunderstorms, some with sleet.
Curiously, the snow that had covered some Black Forest peaks was predicted to melt by Sunday. Nevertheless, fresh snowfall is expected in the Black Forest on Wednesday night, with up to five centimeters of snow expected above 1200 meters.
Stuttgart residents are encouraged to monitor the weather situation closely and take necessary precautions, as the storm is expected to reach their region as well. Local meteorologists have warned residents to secure loose items outside their homes to prevent damage during the storm.
Despite the upcoming storm, many hikers and skiers are excited about the fresh snow forecasted for the Black Forest on Wednesday night. They are eager to enjoy the weather while it lasts.
