Expertise in firefighting excels among youth in Primstal's fire department
Pristal's Professional Firefighter Day Gives Young Aspiring Firefighters a Realistic Insight
On a day dedicated to fire safety and emergency response, the youth fire brigade of Löschbezirk Primstal in Nonnweiler hosted their annual "Professional Firefighter Day." This event, designed specifically for young fire brigade members, offers an immersive experience that mirrors the responsibilities and activities of professional firefighters.
The day began at 8:00 am, with all participants assembling in the vehicle hall, greeted by Alexander Kuhn, Daniel Birtel, Julian Becker, and Jonas Reiter. The course was structured around the daily routine of professional firefighters, including theoretical instructions, practical exercises, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and simulated incidents.
The hands-on training included engaging in practical firefighting exercises such as handling hoses, operating pumps, and learning basic rescue techniques under supervision. Fire safety education was also provided, covering topics like fire prevention, emergency response procedures, and safety protocols.
Equipment demonstrations allowed youth participants to familiarise themselves with firefighting gear, tools, and vehicles used by professional firefighters. Team-building activities were designed to develop collaboration and communication skills critical in firefighting.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to interact with experienced firefighters who shared insights and answered questions. These interactions provided valuable learning experiences for the young firefighters.
During the course of the day, various scenarios were simulated. In the morning, a fire broke out in the school center, with six missing persons. Units from Braunshausen and Kastel, as well as the German Red Cross district association St. Wendel, were involved for reinforcement. The operation was completed after 45 minutes.
Around 11 am, another alarm was triggered for a door opening of a garden house with a person rescue. Three people, two of whom were unconscious, had to be carefully brought out with a stretcher for initial care. Tasks included providing water for extinguishing, providing safety teams with breathing protection, extinguishing attack, shielding neighboring buildings, and rescuing persons from the first floor.
In the afternoon, an extinguishing operation with simulated smoke was carried out. The exercise included using hydraulic equipment, caring for patients, applying the Stifneck, handing over to the rescue service, and catching leaking operating materials. Apart from the units from Primstal, Braunshausen, and Kastel, the turntable ladder vehicle from Bosen-Eckelhausen was also deployed.
The day concluded with an inspection of the emergency vehicles, equipment knowledge, and physical exercise. The young firefighters received recognition from their trainers at the end of the intensive day and the certainty of having taken an important step towards real operational practice.
The "Professional Firefighter Day" aims to educate, inspire, and foster practical skills, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of fire service operations.
