Introducing the Callaway Opus SP Wedges: A Game-Changer in Spin and Control

Callaway Golf has unveiled its latest innovation, the Opus SP wedges. Priced at $199/£179, these wedges offer a tour-validated shape and the latest technology for spin and control.

The "SP" in Opus SP stands for Spin Pocket Construction, a two-piece clubhead design developed by Callaway to optimize weight distribution and launch characteristics in the wedge. This engineering breakthrough improves spin and control, making it easier for golfers to hit low, controlled pitch shots that stop quickly.

The spin pocket, a hollowed cavity underneath the wedge face, shifts weight higher in the head to lower ball launch angle and increase spin. The spin pocket size and center of gravity (CG) placement are progressively adjusted depending on the loft of the wedge, with more weight moved higher in higher-lofted wedges. This innovation works in combination with Callaway's new Spin Gen 2.0 face technology, which features grooves at a 17° angle with tighter spacing and cross-hatch laser etching to maximize friction and spin on the ball.

The Opus SP wedges also offer a clean and compact look at address, and have been tour-validated by professional golfers such as Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, and Min Woo Lee. They will be available in two finish options: Brushed Chrome and Black Shadow.

In addition to the spin pocket technology, the Opus SP wedges have been re-engineered with a two-piece design, shifting the center of gravity higher in the head to lower the launch. The grooves on the Spin Gen 2.0 face sit at a 17° angle and are packed tighter together for maximum spin, regardless of the lie. The Opus SP wedges also feature a cross-hatch laser design to enhance spin, particularly when playing shots with an open face.

The Opus SP wedges will be available in six grind options and nine different lofts, offering a versatile setup for golfers. The gap wedges have been designed with progressive shaping to blend seamlessly into Callaway irons for a more cohesive look throughout the set.

The X-grind, a versatile grind with 12° of bounce, returns in the Opus SP wedges for those seeking forgiveness in various shot executions, particularly in firmer conditions. The Opus SP wedges will be on sale starting from 22/08/2025.

In summary, the Callaway Opus SP wedges represent a significant leap forward in spin and control technology. With their tour-validated shape, innovative spin pocket construction, and versatile setup options, these wedges are sure to be a popular choice among golfers seeking improved performance around the greens.

Golfers can now take advantage of improved spin and control with the Opus SP wedges from Callaway Golf, a sports equipment company. These wedges, priced at $199/£179, incorporate sports-analysis techniques such as the spin pocket construction and new spin gen 2.0 face technology, optimizing weight distribution and launch characteristics for better gameplay.
