Experiences High Oldenburgia Deliver Warm Summer Climates

In a unique collaboration, the city of Oldenburg has secured a weather sponsorship for the high-pressure system 'Oldenburgia'. This meteorological event is currently affecting Lower Saxony and Bremen, and is expected to bring summer-like temperatures over the weekend.

The project, a joint initiative between the Verein Berliner Wetterkarte and the Institute for Meteorology at the Free University of Berlin, aims to support the practical training of meteorology students. High-pressure systems like Oldenburgia tend to last longer and remain on weather maps for a longer period, providing valuable data for students to study.

According to the German Weather Service, temperatures in southern Lower Saxony could reach up to 30°C on Saturday, while the islands can expect highs of up to 22°C and Bremen up to 27°C. However, despite the predicted summer-like temperatures, the day will start with intermittent showers, but it will gradually clear up in the west on Saturday. Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are possible in the evening on Saturday, but it will gradually clear up on Sunday.

On Sunday, temperatures will drop to a maximum of 19°C on the coast and 24°C around Göttingen. The day will start with intermittent showers, but it is expected to be changeable throughout the day.

Mark Alexander Krack, the main business manager of the Hotel and Accommodation Association (Dehoga) in Lower Saxony, anticipates many last-minute hotel bookings in Lower Saxony and Bremen due to the upcoming warm weather. Businesses with outdoor areas are eagerly anticipating the upcoming warm weekend.

The high 'Oldenburgia' previously gained significant attention 20 years ago when it extended over large parts of Europe for nearly five weeks. This is the eighth high for Oldenburg, the city reported. Names for high and low-pressure systems can be purchased through a weather sponsorship. The price for a high is €390, and a low costs €290 (each including VAT).

Low-pressure systems often bring more turbulent weather over a shorter period. However, with Oldenburgia in control, we can expect a more stable and enjoyable weather pattern for the weekend.
