Experienced Souls player succeeds in soloing Elden Ring Nightreign's challenging Depth 5 battle, yet cautions against replication of the feat.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Soulsborne challenge runner Ongbal has successfully completed Elden Ring's Nightreign's maximum-difficulty Depth Five. This feat was showcased in a solo run uploaded by YouTuber Distortion2.
The lower depths of Nightreign present a formidable challenge, featuring more challenging enemies, random Nightlords, and powerful new weapon and relic effects for buildcrafting. Ongbal, known for his affinity for katanas and Sekiro, opted for a different approach this time, using Wylder, a character renowned for his mobility and high skill ceiling, as his chosen hero.
Wylder was equipped with a starter greatsword inflicted with bleed throughout the run. To enhance his offensive capabilities, Ongbal paired the greatsword with an offhand Flamberge, utilising its bonus bleed-inflicting jump attacks. Ted, another avid Elden Ring player, shares a similar fascination for CRPGs and CRPG-adjacent games. His favourite effects for bows include the Swarm of Flies spell or inflicting Scarlet Rot.
However, the higher depths were not without their challenges. Enemies were extremely tanky, capable of dealing lethal blows in a single hit. Ongbal's Depth Five run was not an enjoyable experience at these levels, as he mentioned in his video description.
Interestingly, in a previous run, Ted's team was wiped out by a surprise Everdark Libra whose summons glitched out and became invisible. This unfortunate incident was not repeated in Ongbal's run, as he had the extra Wylder grapple and blood loss upgrade from relics to aid him.
To access Depth Five, players must gradually level up through the earlier depths. Ongbal's Depth Five run was unremarkable, with no god drops, invasions, or nail-biter moments. Despite this, it serves as a testament to Ongbal's skill and determination in overcoming the game's most challenging content.
When not playing or writing about games, both Ted and Ongbal can be found pursuing other interests. Ted enjoys lifting weights on his back porch, while Ongbal continues to push boundaries in the world of Soulsborne challenges. You can follow Ted on Bluesky for more gaming updates.
Depth Five was introduced in the Nightreign's Deep of Night update, offering a new layer of difficulty for players to conquer. As more players delve into this challenging content, we can expect to see more incredible feats and stories emerge from the depths of Elden Ring.
