Bad Omens Release New Single "Specter"

Bad Omens, the Richmond, Virginia-based metalcore band, have released a new single called "Specter." The song, which features actor Ryan Hurst from Sons Of Anarchy and The Walking Dead in a mysterious and unnerving role, has already racked up over 2.7 billion streams globally.

In an interview with Metal Hammer in February 2024, frontman Noah Sebastian hinted that the band's new music will continue to explore darker artistic and emotional themes but with a more eclectic and tasteful approach. He emphasized that the band's direction will not shift towards "bubblegum pop," despite incorporating catchy or polished elements, and defended the use of electronic and diverse sounds as part of their evolving style.

The video for "Specter," co-directed by Noah Sebastian, teases the release of the new music. In the song, Sebastian sings, "Oh I'm changing, and I feel more like a ghost," and the chorus pivots on the lyric, "Do you feel love? I know I don't with no one to hold."

Anticipation for new music from Bad Omens has been growing since photos posted on their social media accounts last September revealed they were at work in a recording studio. The band teased the release of "Specter" earlier this week on their social media pages.

Despite the excitement surrounding the new single, the interview does not provide any details about the production process or the themes explored in the new music. Sebastian did not elaborate on the specifics of the new music or its release date in the interview.

During an appearance at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, last month, Sebastian told the crowd, "I'm a little tired, tired from working on these albums." At the age of 29, he expressed doubts about his ability to continue playing heavy, core-based music in his late 30s.

Sebastian aims to create his music tastefully and in a way that feels true to him as a person and not forced. He believes that metalheads tend to label anything that isn't metal as pop or EDM, disregarding the various subgenres in these genres.

The single "Specter" is the first new music from Bad Omens since 2022's The Death of Peace of Mind album. The band's recent single aligns with Sebastian's hinted direction, showcasing a polished, cinematic style that still embraces emotional depth without abandoning their heavier roots.
