Expensive Secondary Market Record Breaker for Running Backs: New Price High

Manchester United have strengthened their squad with the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, in a deal worth around €88.5 million. The Slovenia international has put pen to paper on a contract until June 2030, with the transfer being finalised in early August 2025.

The transfer fee consists of an initial €76.5 million, with additional performance-related add-ons of €8.5-€10 million. Manchester United successfully outbid Newcastle United for Sesko's services, with the striker preferring Old Trafford despite Newcastle making multiple bids.

Last season, Sesko was RB Leipzig's top under-23 goal scorer across Europe's top five leagues, netting 21 goals and providing six assists. Manchester United's director of football highlighted his "electrifying pace" and physical dominance as key qualities for the team.

Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's manager, expressed confidence in Sesko's immediate impact, stating that he is ready to play early in the Premier League season. This transfer is one of Manchester United’s major signings of the summer, alongside other big investments to strengthen the squad.

Sesko's transfer makes him the second most expensive sale by RB Leipzig, surpassed only by Josko Gvardiol, who was sold to Manchester City in 2023 for a reported €91.5 million. Sesko has been successful six times in both the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal for RB Leipzig, and his purchase price was driven up due to a bidding war, reaching a minimum of €80 million, as per RB Leipzig's determination.

Meanwhile, in other news, a second weapon ban zone has been established in Hamm. Elsewhere, there has been a road closure in Hamm-Heessen due to a car accident. Eurobahn is planning improvements for Hamm and its surroundings.
