Expansion of Grassroots Motorsport Engagement in Seychelles through our platform, Motorsport in a Box

The Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) has introduced a revolutionary concept to the island nation, aiming to boost the growth and development of motorsport. Known as Motorsport in a Box, this initiative is considered a game-changer for grassroots motorsport by SKA President Liza Rene-Crosgow.

The toolkit, delivered on 13 June 2025, includes platform-standard flags, bibs for officials, stopwatches, notebooks, trophies, and other essential resources. It was used to stage inaugural events at Champions Park Raceway on 28-30 June 2025, with the events taking place beyond the confines of the permanent karting circuit, including in non-traditional venues such as car parks or open spaces across Mahé and Praslin Islands.

The Kart Slalom, one of the events held as part of Motorsport in a Box, is being used to support driver development pathways, preparing participants for international competitions like Motorsport Games. The toolkit supported clear role identification, accurate timekeeping, and standardised event procedures, testing the skills of 11 experienced drivers in a technical, precision-based competition.

Autokhana, another event, attracted nine participants in a low-barrier, engaging format. Both Autokhana and Kart Slalom will continue to be deployed as open, promotional events to raise awareness and increase participation across Seychelles throughout 2025.

Organisers identified areas for improvement, including the need for additional marshals at crossover points and the introduction of real-time penalty reporting systems. The SKA plans to expand grassroots activities to include new formats such as navigational rallies and hillclimbs, as well as improving operational capacity in the future.

Motorsport in a Box is highly recommended by SKA for any ASN looking to grow motorsport at the community level. It is practical, cost-effective, and impactful, lowering entry barriers, developing local driver skills, growing community participation, and creating pathways for Seychelles talents to progress into higher levels of motorsport.

Autokhana and Kart Slalom will be integrated into the national motorsport calendar, with competitive series targeted for 2026. The initiative provided hands-on training for local officials, setting the stage for a promising future for motorsport in Seychelles.

For precise details on Motorsport in a Box as applied in Seychelles, it is recommended to consult official Seychelles motorsport governing bodies like the Seychelles Karting Association or the National Sports Council for current projects or initiatives.
