Boom Time at Wismar Shipyard: TKMS Grows Staff for U-Boat Production

TKMS Deploys U-Boot-Bauer Workers at the Wismar Facility - Expanding labor force at Wismar: TKMS to recruit more workers

Woohoo! Gear up, Wismar! The good ships at Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) are expanding their team by a whopping 1,400 over the next five years! That's right, from its current workforce of 100, you'll soon see up to 1,500 hardworking shipbuilders at the Wismar location! Your chances of getting hired go up as of this Tuesday – grab your résumés and dive into their internal platform! This exciting spree kicks off with around 100 new hires this year, followed by at least 300 each year thereafter. Make room for up to 60 trainees joining the ranks annually too[1][2].

With Germany gunning for a stronger defense stance, TKMS snatched up the struggling shipyard in Wismar at the tail end of 2022. This long-running vessel production site, which went under after the demise of Genting (Hong Kong), is now primed for a major turnaround[2]. Just as TKMS's Kiel site, the Wismar yard will craft U-boats like a pro! But that's not all – they also plan to launch a state-of-the-art research vessel, the "Polarstern," set to dip a cool €1.5 billion in the project bucket[1][2].

Before U-boat production can set sail in Wismar, however, vital technical modifications are called for. No worries though – TKMS is ready to plunk down around €200 million to modernize the facilities[1]. The stars are aligning for Wismar's shipbuilding industry, preparing the city to emerge as a force to be reckoned with in Germany's naval capabilities, tackling geopolitical pressures and technological advancements head-on[2].

Hold onto your hard hats, because this is one unstoppable growth spurt coming your way, Wismar!
