The newly formed Phu Tho province, resulting from the merger of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh, has unveiled an ambitious strategic development plan, extending to 2030 with a vision toward 2050. This comprehensive plan aligns with Vietnam's broader regional integration strategies and aims to unlock new economic corridors connecting the northern region.

The plan emphasizes a multi-center urban and industrial development model, reorganizing urban, industrial, and transportation systems into distinct functional zones. This approach aims to facilitate more efficient growth management and support balanced regional development.

Phu Tho, strategically positioned as a gateway linking northern localities with Hanoi and the Red River delta, also aspires to become a regional hub for industry, services, logistics, tourism, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and cultural-ecological tourism. The province's rich cultural heritage will be leveraged to boost economic and social vitality through cultural tourism, local education, and regional heritage branding.

The plan also focuses on economic restructuring, poverty reduction, ethnic minority support, social welfare, culture, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and political stability. The merger has resulted in a significant reduction in commune-level units, aiming to streamline governance, improve administrative efficiency, and facilitate socio-economic development.

Phu Tho's socio-economic status is predicted to see substantial shifts, with its regional GDP ranking sixth nationally and first in the northern midland and mountainous region. The province aims to host national and international events and aims for high economic growth driven by science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and the private sector.

In addition, Phu Tho aspires to position itself as a major logistics centre for the region, leveraging its geographical advantage as a gateway connecting Hanoi to the northwest and being close to Noi Bai International Airport. The province also plans to capitalize on its vast land resources to establish distinctive, large-scale, and concentrated commodity agricultural zones, following a sustainable, efficient, and ecological approach.

Phu Yen province, located on the south-central coast with a temperate climate, abundant land, and infrastructure gradually being completed synchronously, is considered a promising land for industrial development. A high-tech industrial park will be established in the former Vinh Phuc province area to attract emerging industries with high added value.

The strategic development plan also includes administrative reorganization, human resource and leadership development, and a comprehensive review and alignment of regional roles. The plan calls for a thorough review of the economic, demographic, urban, and sectoral landscapes to define suitable regional roles and functions within the new province.

Notably, the Phu Tho People's Committee and Amata VN PCL (Amata VN) have signed an MoU to establish a long-term and sustainable strategic cooperation relationship. This collaboration underscores Phu Tho's commitment to attracting investment and fostering economic growth.

The integration of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh into a larger Phu Tho province is expected to create a more cohesive administrative unit with enhanced regional synergy and development potential. This strategic development plan marks a significant step toward realizing the full potential of the combined region.
