Expanded funding of 150 million: Sportpark Rheinhöhe undergoes expansion

The city of Wiesbaden is set to make a significant stride in its urban development with the construction of the Rheinhöhe Sports Park. The project, which has been in the works for some time, has garnered the support of the local council and the Wiesbaden community.

The sports park, with a budget of 150 million euros, is being built with the aim to cater to families, children, and everyone. According to Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, swimming is seen as a form of participation, not a luxury.

The sports park will feature a competition pool, a covered ice rink, a sauna landscape, and the new Mattiaqua headquarters. The ice rink will be used year-round for figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating, and curling. In the summer, the ice rink will be transformed into a roller sports arena for inline slalom, roller figure skating, roller derby, scooter sessions, and skate workshops.

The ice rink's waste heat will be utilised to heat the swimming pool, making the complex more energy-efficient. The park will also replace the provisional outdoor solution of the Henkel artificial ice rink at the Kleinfeldchen.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Rheinhöhe sports park has already taken place, and the building application was submitted by Mattiaqua Baths and the City Development Company SEG at the start of the year. The construction costs have been largely allocated, and the plans are reliable, as stated by Mende and Building Director Andreas Kowol.

The opening of the Rheinhöhe sports park is planned for 2027, although there is some uncertainty regarding the inclusion of the ski hall in the initial opening. The park will also include a 50-meter pool with ten lanes, an empty swimming pool with a movable floor, a current channel, a children's wading pool, steam baths, outdoor saunas, and a sauna garden.

A unique aspect of the Rheinhöhe sports park is the time capsule, which has been filled and will be displayed at the future entrance area of the park. The capsule contains various items, including the Wiesbaden Kurier, project descriptions, rubber ducks, Euro coins, Roland Stöcklin's tie, an issue of "Biebricher", and more.

The construction of the Rheinhöhe sports park is considered a milestone in Wiesbaden's urban development, confirming the necessity of the project. The city council cooperation underscores the importance of this venture for the Wiesbaden community.
