Exhibiting Diamonds and Their Stunning Display
The University of Oklahoma (OU) has unveiled a new softball stadium, Love's Field, in Norman, last March. The main highlight of the facility is the impressive Oklahoma-shaped video scoreboard, approximately 27 feet tall and 55 feet wide, installed at the stadium's main portion.
The new video display, provided by Daktronics, is oriented towards home plate, a significant improvement over the old video board at FirstEnergy Stadium. In addition to the main video display, the stadium features a 15 HD LED ribbon board, approximately 6 feet high and over 100 feet wide, complementing the main display.
Two 2.5x8.5-foot, 6mm backstop displays are positioned behind the batters on each side of home plate, showcasing animations, graphics, and messages from OU sponsors. The stadium's emphasis on sponsors in the displays is a testament to the growing interest in OU's softball program, which boasts a successful history, including a national title win in 2000 and multiple titles since.
The Fightin Phils' production team started learning the Daktronics Show Control system around Thanksgiving 2023, ensuring they can utilise the new technology effectively. The canopy displays at Love's Field can serve as scoreboards during non-collegiate softball events.
The new LED video and ribbon displays at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA, were designed, manufactured, and integrated by Daktronics. The main video display at FirstEnergy Stadium is a roughly 37x60-foot Daktronics 15 HD display with variable content zoning. The main portion of the scoreboard displays full 16:9 video, crucial for camera operators and content sharing. The bottom section of the display outlines the Red River and is reserved for balls, strikes, sponsorships, and other information.
Daktronics was also involved in the upgrade of the on-site displays at Love's Field. The best practices for designing and implementing video scoreboards in college and minor league sports facilities include several technical, operational, and user-experience considerations, such as high-quality LED displays, versatile connectivity and content management, operational control and streaming integration, durability and environmental suitability, multi-sport flexibility and community use, and centralised and integrated technology platforms.
The new displays at FirstEnergy Stadium were installed prior to the 2024 season, ready to elevate the fan experience for the upcoming softball season. Love's Field hosts events such as youth camps and practices throughout the year, further enhancing the community's engagement with the university's softball programme.
